Since the line between genders have been changed, there are more and more celebrities who have been revealing and blazing their true gender. In Thailand, even though gays, lesbians and transgender are very common but it has not been legalized to be married till now. Many of them are hoping so much to be “approved” marriage, but too bad it is not yet(⋟﹏⋞). To the foreigners who have visited Thailand might have heard the word ‘kra-they’, ‘tood’, ‘gay’, ‘tom’ and ‘di’, you might be curious what does that mean. Here are some guidelines to make a clearer picture in Thai cultrue.
Kra-they / Tood = A man who wants to possess female characteristics. Therefore, most of the time they will dress-up and act like a woman. Some of them can be transgender women too.
Gay = Referring to a homosexual male but not include female (for female, Thai will define themselves as “lesbian”)
Tom = A woman who behaves like a man and dresses-up in men’s clothing. Some of them can be a transgender man too.
Di = A woman who prefers to have serious relationship with tom (a man-like female). Most of ‘Di’ will not prefer to be with men.
Lesbian = A woman who prefers to have serious relationship with women.
